Neighbourhoods

Zichron's neighbourhoods compared: the moshava, the ridges and the new east

The 15 official council zones of Zichron Yaakov, when each was built, where English-speaking olim tend to live, and how arnona differs between them.

Zichron grew outwards from one street. The Baron's engineer laid out farm plots on both sides of HaIkarim St, today HaMeyasdim St and the Midrachov, and everything else came later (council history (opens in a new tab)). If you want to compare them side by side, try my neighbourhood matcher.

The official names

For school and gan registration the council divides the town into 15 zones, and these are the names you will see on forms: Moshava Center, HaMoshava North, Shchunat Yaakov, HaShmura, Neve Sharet, Givat Eden, Neve Shalev, Neve Ma'ayan, Ramat Tzvi, HaGoren, Halomot Zichron, Neve Remez, Mul HaYekev, Neve HaBaron and Park HaYayin. The 2026-27 PDF lists every street in each zone (council registration zones (opens in a new tab)). You will also hear Vilot BaChoresh, Achuzat Nili and Neot Galim: the council names them as private-house neighbourhoods, but they are not separate zones.

The order they were built

  • The moshava (Moshava Center and HaMoshava North): 1880s stone houses, Ohel Yaakov (1886), the First Aliyah Museum and the Midrachov.
  • Neve Sharet and Neve Remez, in the south, came in the State's first decade.
  • Neve HaBaron (south-west) and Givat Eden (north-west) followed on the western ridge.
  • Then the private-house neighbourhoods: Neve Shalev and Vilot BaChoresh north of the centre, Achuzat Nili and HaShmura to the south. The council says most young families moving in settle in neighbourhoods like these.
  • Most recently Halomot Zichron in the east, which brought hundreds of new families (council history (opens in a new tab); council about page (opens in a new tab)).

Where English-speaking olim live

Nefesh B'Nefesh's community guide is the best summary I found (NBN (opens in a new tab)):

  • Dati Leumi olim tend to live in the Moshava, near Ohel Yaakov and Moed.
  • Older Dati Leumi olim (average age about 60) often live in or near Remez.
  • Charedi English speakers live mostly near Derech Sarah, Chazon Ish and Ramat Tzvi.
  • HaShmura, Halomot and Neve HaBaron are especially popular with other olim.

NBN also notes that Zichron has every religious affiliation and that some neighbourhoods are homogenous, so visit on a Shabbat before you sign anything.

Parks and the outdoors

Park HaMoshava (about 50 dunams) lies between Derech Rabin and Halomot Zichron (council (opens in a new tab)). There are dog parks in HaShmura and Halomot, a skatepark in Halomot (Hasida St), and lookouts such as Mitzpe Gal Azulai in HaShmura and Gan HaGiva by HaNarkis St (council parks pages (opens in a new tab)). They are all in the directory.

Arnona is not the same everywhere

For 2026 residential arnona has three zones (tax order (opens in a new tab)):

ZoneNIS per m2 a yearCovers
A63.71Most of the town, incl. Halomot Zichron
B52.39Parts of Neve Shalev, old Zichron, Ramat Tzvi (HaAliya St) and Neve Remez
C50.46Neve Sharet

The exact streets are in the tax order; the renting and buying guide has the rest.
